The EU/EBRD Energy Efficiency Financing Facility (EUEEFF)

Energy consumption accounts for nearly 95% of the man-made CO2 emissions and causes damage to our climate and all the environment.

According to the International Energy Agency, there is a significant potential for improvement in energy efficiency in Bulgaria when compared with other European countries.

Following the guidelines for improving energy efficiency in the industry sector which is expected to make improvements in its processes and the machines it uses as outlined in the Green Paper on Energy Efficiency adopted by the European Commission and the Council Directive on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC Directive). The EBRD has established a finance facility to the amount of EUR 20 Million available for energy efficiency projects undertaken by private industrial companies in Bulgaria. The credit line is being provided to the Participating Banks, which are UniCredit Bulbank – EUR 15 Million, and UBB – € 5 Million respectively. The banks in their turn disburse loans to private sector companies for industrial energy efficiency projects. The maximum amount of an individual sub-loan is EUR 2,5 Million. The incentive called “completion fee” for the companies receiving loans under this programme is 15% of the financing received under the EU/EBRD EEFF. Companies applying for loans under the facility benefit also from free technical assistance and support with business plan preparation.
